A Slice of Fall

This holiday season, the time may come where you find yourself searching: "Apple Pie near me."
Although this may seem like a time saver, let us encourage you to instead make this apple pie from scratch - a simple and quick recipe that will add the perfect touch of homespun to your get together.
We baked Simply Home Cooked's Homemade Apple Pie and it did not disappoint. With our 17" Scallop board as the base of the presentation, the pie didn't need much decorating - just the scallops to compliment the beautiful circular pie dish.
For many, the holiday season cannot simply go by without a traditional pie served on the table. The decadent dish may bring childhood memories to mind or simply taste like home. Allow your company to experience that extra special touch this holiday season, as you bake apple pie from home.
Follow the recipe below, or any old-spun family recipes that never disappoint, this holiday season as you "Gather Something Good."

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
1/4 cup cornstarch
3/4 tsp cinnamon
2 cups water
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
5 granny smith apples (found at Tagge's Fruit Stand of course)
1 homemade or store bought pie dough
1 egg for egg wash
INSTRUCTIONS
Make the apple pie filling
1) In saucepan, add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, corn starch, cinnamon and water. 2) Let it come to a boil over medium heat and let that simmer for 2-3 minutes. 3) Now peel and slice the apples into 1/4 inch thick slices. Add them to the saucepan. 4) Reduce to low heat and cover the saucepan. Leet simmer for 6-8 minutes or until apples become soft (not too soft). 5) If filling is too runny, spoon out a few tbsps of the liquid and mix it with 1 tbsp of cornstarch. Then stir back in with the apples. Let cool.
Roll out the dough
1) Roll out both pieces of the pie dough onto a floured surface into a 14 inch diameter circle. 2) Place the first piece on the bottom of your pie dish, prick generously with a fork. 3) Add the pie filling. 4) Place the remaining half of rolled dough over the top of pie dish.
Brush egg with wash & bake
1) Make the egg wash by combining 1 egg with 1 tbsp of water in a small bowl. 2) Brush the pie dough with egg wash and bake at 370 degrees Fahrenheit for about 50 minutes. Enjoy!
